The Americans have their Monday Night Football, and the British have their Super Sundays, but little did you guys know that there is Fantastic Friday Night Football (FFNF) for us Dragoncagelites.

Yes, we have now switched to a Friday night sessions due to latecomers for the Sunday morning session, as well as to avoid the hot sun. (Sorry Ben, not much request or call for a return to NIE on a lazy Sunday Morning.)

As usual, the ever effective Bob will broadcast a call to arms, or in this case, call to put on your soccer boots on Friday afternoons, and if there's enough replies, FFNF will then go as scheduled -- cue hard tacklings and games won in a row.

Btw Ben, at Fico, we can kick as hard as you can and we don't have to go out of the cage to retrieve the ball anymore. ; )

So Fantastic Friday Night Football, of FFNF beckons the brave.

All good things must come to an end right?

This news almost sealed dragonscage.mar.sg's fate as it means that not a lot of updates, or non at all, will be avialable starting May 1st, unless we move onto a domain like "www.dragonscage.mar".

But of course, this site will still be around, and archives will forever be there, it's just that updates will be a wee bit tougher than usual -- and not like there's lots of updates anyway. ; )

And to those of you who've been calling out for a Sunday morning reunion, I'm pretty sure that if the call gets loud enough, perhaps there might even be one.

First, any idea if the court is still available or has it been converted into something else? Last we left, it underwent massive reconstruction, so it's anyone's guesses as to how it is today.

It seems that Dragonscage's NTU sessions will now be a memorable, if not, glorious moments of our young adulthood years.

Who could have denied the passion and dedication of waking up early on a Sunday morning, and sweating it out on the court, under the hot sun and with an occasional spoilt vending machine, where a selection press on the Melon milk drink button will give you a pineapple surprise instead.

Plenty of good moments indeed.

These days, Dragonscage have evolved or ventured towards a less cagey affair, but in its essence, we're still playing within a netted venue.

FICO sports hall accomodates us these days, and no thanks to commitments associated with growing up, sessions are limited to late nights towards the weekend or public holidays.

Oh, and it costs to play as well.

Nevertheless, the spirit of the dragoncage continues and if you're interested in joining, send email to dragonscage@gmail.com with your phone number, and we will contact you.

FC DC unlucky in Ultimate Challenge Final

FC Dragonscage finished in 2nd place in the Ultimate Challenge held at Feeko Sportshub yesterday.

In the first match, a goal for FC Romeos were ruled out before Lord Mar & Fauzi (a.k.a Ramos) scored the goals for FC DC's first win.

The second game was against a team...hmm let me call em, Bolton for their malicious ways.
Aggression is part and parcel of the game but malice is hardly fair play.
It all started when the quick-minded Amin intercepted a pass from the keeper to his defender to open the score. Bolton was livid and started their malicious game. Amin appeared to be the brunt of their wrath and was involved in a few off-the-ball incidents. Elbows and wild kicks came flying in as Bolton equalised in controversial fashion. FC DC had stopped play thinking there was an infringement.

Amin then scored a devastating curling freekick from just inside the opposition half to seal a 1-0 win in the next match. A "Freekick Maut" according to Bob.

In the Semi-finals, FC DC were then held to a 0-0 game before it went to penalties. Mar unluckily missed the target before Amin converted his kick. Fadzully though was the man of the match as he saved ALL three penalties to bring them through to the final.

FC Dragonscage were going to face Bolton yet again...this time in the grand finale.
Surprisingly, some of the Bolton players apologised for their actions in the previous tie before the match. FC DC dominated proceedings and hit the post twice. Mar & Sheva were in fine form.
Sheva was slowly showing the leggy dribbling ability that we all know he is capable of. Lady Luck though was having her period and didn't smile at us. To the penalty shoot out yet again.

Mar made no mistake from the spot before the keeper managed to save Bob's shot and pushed Amin's penalty to the bar. It wasn't the happy ending that FC DC were looking for.

Bob quipped, "Did you hear what their keeper said? He said he can't sleep tonight! For us, tomorrow it's just a normal working day. Can you see the difference in level...?"

FC DC though deserved a lot of credit.
Sheva, Fad & Mar had to cover as goalie after Husnul was ruled out due to 'jemputan duties' and they did well. And Fauzi Ramos and Hairil Puyol was impeccable at the back. Well done lads!!

Non-Caged Sunday.

Apologies to all the raving fans of DC that has been complaining about the lack of footy session over the past weekends.

First of all, thank you for the interest and complaints and second of all, no DC is not dead — it’s only dormant.

The lack of session has occured due to the lack of participating players, no thanks to national service, injuries, family constraints, exams and even work commitments. Myriads of possible reasons to the recent hiatus of DC.

I could probably point to the number one cause which has been punctuality. Despite calls from Bob to begin early, we’re still streaming into the cage at 10.30 – 11am and it has been detrimental all along.

Anyway, come June it will loosely almost be the 4^th year that DC has operated and imagining all the faces that has graced us can be quite a daunting task.

As all things, evolution takes place, and perhaps Dragonscage needs a breathe of fresh air, where nothing comes fresher than the morning dews at Jurong West’s FICO?

Ok, k k , so maybe it’s a little bit expensive, but with the strictly allocated timeslot and wonderful playing surface (and facilities) perhaps DC-ers will be more committed to come early? Late comers pay just as much as the early birds so its not worth it to come late.

It’s still a thought, though not an impossibility either. Maybe we make it a bi-weekly session? So what say you?

Did you caught last night's game? The one where the Champions of England got overran by the Champions of Spain? You know, the match where a certain Portuguese tried too hard playing as a striker, when in fact he's a natural winger? Perhaps it was the non-existent midfield trio of Anderson, Carrick and Giggs that led to the collapse of the defending champions?

Come to think of it, the very word 'Defending Champions' suits them well. They have been defending for most of the match and Man Utd were never known for being the best defensive unit in Europe. That should go to the Liverpools and the AC Milans.

It's sad to see Ferguson not coming up with his best attacking unit and for once, he had to think about the opposition with regards to his first 11.

Oh well, better luck next season? Congrats to Barcelona indeed. They've been displaying the kind of football that makes you drool in awe and beg the referee to not blow his whistle. For you do not wish to see their flow being disrupted.

Such is the beauty that the current crop of Barcelona possess and exhudes and what makes it more amazing is that some of the players have barely reached their peak.

What a game. To all the neutrals, too bad it was a one sided affair. To all Barca fans, stand proud cos you know your team has just defeated the best club in the world.

Congrats to Man Yoo for lifting the trophy with a stalemate draw against Arsenal. Stalemate not because of it being goalless, but rather the lacklustre performance of the champions, pegged back defensively, ever so cautious in not conceding an Arsenal goal.

Had this been a few years back, Ferguson would have had more heart in taking on Arsenal and clinching the title with a goal fest. Not this time round it seems.

To all Liverpool & Chelseas fans, too bad. To Arsenal fans, go ask Wenger to bring in David Villa. And why not bring in Xavi, Iniesta and Silva as well?

To all DCers, don’t be late for your Sunday game.

Dragonscage striker/defender Siddiq was slated to make his comeback from a long-term knee injury last night but the player didn't turn up.

Taking a page out of the "How To Anger Your Boss & Fans" book written by Brazilian striker Adriano, Siddiq was spotted at a local club in the early hours of Sunday morning holding a Pakistani girl with one hand and a transvestite with another.

An eyewitness who captured the above picture of Siddiq said, "To be fair, he didn't leave with em. He was sound asleep in the toilet soon after."

It is predicted that DC boss Bob Hafiz a.k.a Bob Hafiz is livid with Siddiq's shenanigans and is ready to fine him the full 4 weeks' wages.

"I texted him early in the morning expecting a lift from him at Bukit Batok but there was no reply!" an angry Bob fumed.

In other DC news, Ben is expected to return to full fitness in 4 months time whereas Amin was ruled out of yesterday's matches due to an ankle injury.

FC Dragonscage didn't show half of the ability they had but still managed to go considerably far in the Football Loco tournament on Sunday..

If only we had Man Utd's kind of luck,
the last minute taiko deflected goals or dodgy refereeing decisions...

Dragonscage veteran Siddiq has been ruled out for a further two weeks after the striker/defender broke down in training yet again for the umpteeth time.

A close source to the player revealed, "For now, we don't know the full extent of the injury but it is clear that he is enjoying the break from football."

It wasn't a very good turnout, but it was a decent one.

A group of local Chinese boys had gathered earlier for a kickabout but thanks to the drizzle, they left at about 10.45am, about the same time that the DC crowd made its way into the courts.

Sara, Jar, Mar, Andi, Simon, Faizal, Jack, Fadz, Bob and Ahmad made up the tiny crowd. Thanks for coming fellas!

The Return of the SMS Reminder

The SMS reminder was back! And what a turnout there was, despite the mundane early attendance~ However, Bob was nowhere to be seen. Where’s Bob??

Anyway, plenty of first timers were seen, and it bodes well for DC as for the first time in as many months, there was 4 teams on display! FOUR TEAMS!!!

The waterboys joined us late, after getting KICKED out of their morning tournament, after Fad missed a penalty — just had to mention that. Hehehe..

The ex JJ boys came in their cars and taxis and gave DC a big worry with their plus sizes and extra large gameplan.

And plenty of old boys returned as well after their exams and ‘what-have-you’s, to give Khai a ‘farewell’ game as this weekend marks the end of his MOP status. Hah!

Btw, MOP = Members of Public. Somebody going NS (CDA) lor~!

Talk about NS, there’s news that Ben has been recouperating really well, and practising really hard on his PS3, so we can be sure that he’ll be tactically aware when he returns.

Oh, and Mar got a new ball too! So join us next week, and don’t miss anymore action on your Sunday morning. Stop going to the market, stop tending to the plants outside your house, and start kicking some ass at DC.

So what happens when there’s no DC, such as Hari Raya or CNY? Why, of course Bob will sms that there’ll be no session lor~

Interesting FA Cup Ties

Liverpool against Everton, Manchester United against Tottenham Hotspurs, Cardiff against Arsenal and the rest, makes up for the 4^th Round of the FA Cup.

The merseyside derby reckons to be the most explosive tie of all, and David Moyes’ men will desperately seek to defeat the current EPL leagueleaders — and the last victory they got over Liverpool was way back in September 2006. Plenty of desire indeed.

Manchester United, won comfortably against imploding Southampton, despite resting a few key players and should be expected to win their tie against Harry Houdini’s act.

As for Arsenal, well there’s nothing really to predict from this unpredictable bunch of young Gunners. We’ll wait and watch then.

Liverpool won with a little bit of luck. That’s right, just a bit ‘cos for once they didn’t need to depend on a lot of luck to win a game. A 5–1 scoreline is flattering for floundering Newcastle, who were visibly depleted from their earlier game on Boxing Day. Btw, towards the end of the game, did anyone noticed that liverpool played with 4 centerbacks, without any proper wide midfielders? Who cares, top of the table with 3 point lead.

And then Chelsea had to give Liverpool a slice of their New Year Pie after they allowed Dempsey to bag the equaliser, in a daring-and-fortunate game that Fulham took on against Les Bleus. Chelsea should have wrapped the game up, but it seems that Terry’s absence is a significant one.

So Arsenal won, yada yada, Man Utd yet to play, yada yada, then Man City drew, again, yada yada while Amr Zaki scores another penalty, yada yada.

Ooh, Everton was scintillating against Sunderland. Maybe Sbragia thought that he’d already got his managerial contract, its time to sit back, relax, hope for the sack and a big compensation package. This guy is brilliant.

A punching incident by Fuller on his own teammate, Andy Griffin, made him see red, pun intended, so West Ham collected another precious 3 points at home, much similar to West Brom’s 2–0 home win over Spurs, who finally, have some points to show for their endless, ~~blunt~~ swashbuckling displays of late.

At Dragonscage, there was much fun. Much much much fun. Mwahahahahahaha. Happy New Year Everybody!!!

This time last year, I swear that there were more presents!!!

But, the spirit of giving were aplenty, as a few of us shared what we brought over to DC.

It was chaotic. Not since a long while has there been soooo many players. The good weather meant that the games stretched till almost 3pm! And most of our cramps meant we needed stretching afterwards too.

The games were good, there were a few runs (wins-in-a-row) but none surpassed the record still, although it was mightily close.

Arsenal 1 - Liverpool 1

Bring in Kaka to replace Dirk Kuyt. He’s reportedly unsettled at AC Milan after Ronaldinho’s arrival there anyways. 30Million pounds? Definitely worth every penny.

Need a cheaper alternative? How about Bayern’s Hamit Altintop? I’ve always been impressed with his attacking flair and long shot abilities. 15Million pounds. Why not?

Watching Liverpool STRUGGLE desperately against 10men Arsenal caused me to suffer from severe eyesore and uncontrollable frustration that comes with fits of anxiety.

Lucas, Arbeloa, Kuyt, Riera, Babel, El-Zhar and Ngog all failed to provide any penetration, and once again, without Torres, it was up to Gerrard to drive the team from the center.

And as expected, Liverpool switched to cruise mood, after Arsenal received the red card – cos they know as long as they don’t lose to the big four, its job well done. But I view it as a lack of ambition. Sticking to a 4–4–1–1 when you have 1 man extra is simply slack. Pfft.

So once again, it is a 1–1 stalemate at the Emirates Stadium for the last 4 games played there. Amazing stuffs indeed. Liverpool just can’t bring down the Arsenal fortress, and till Kaka makes his way to Anfield, I still won’t believe that this is the year the EPL title comes home.

Or maybe bring in Pablo Aimar?

Singapore 0 - Vietnam 1

Surprise surprise, Alfi came down and met up with us (Sidek, Bob, Mar) this evening to watch the game. Spirits were up, and the crowd filled the stadium steadily.

Soon the waterboys, Fadriano, Rizman and Saliman joined up with us, where we were seated beside the raucous Vietnamese supporters. A little sidetrack, some of the Viet girls didn’t look too bad either~!

Getting a drink was terribly a chore, as a ~~queue~~ mob of thirsty supporters haggled the stall, manned by a team of students (they look like they themselves could field 2 soccer teams!!), endlessly emptying bottles after bottles of Pepsi. $2 per cup — whoever said business was bad in the current economy?

The pre-game and in-game atmostphere beats the home couch+pillow combination of watching the match. A few outspoken/brash spectators gave us a bag of laughters throughout. Worth mentioning was the Dancing Uncle, which I believe was caught gyrating on camera by Alfi.

Just when we thought the game would end goalless, the sucker punch hit the Lions. Boohoo. Vietnamese takes the lead and their supporters erupt into a brainless frenzy. There was no way back into the game for Singapore. In Dota terms, it’ll be called ‘GG’, or Good Game.

What a dissappointment. The hype was good, the game was good, but the results wasn’t. Oh well, at least we got to see the dancing uncle~
